THE YOUTH ARE A THREAT TO MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The societal paralysis we are facing today is because we have allowed transformation of our society into a society of ‘garbage collectors’ and apes.
The gradual erosion in our culture and vast adaptation to obnoxious lifestyle trends by the young generation, is clearly sounding a death knell to the realization of any economic strides that will alleviate us from poverty.
The weakening of the societal fabric is moving third world nations further from achieving their ambitious Millennium Development Goals (MDGs.) Kenya being the worst affected.
Those seen as steering this programmes seems not ready to pick up the mantle. They remain with a consolation that they are future leaders. To put it candidly they are future Failures.
Kenya is evolving as a nation where boys are up in competition with their mother’s makeup they want to have the latest hairdo. They are out to look like their mothers. They are fighting to be feminine. On the other hand the youthful ladies are busy searching for latest trends worse even some want to be like their fathers.
The ladies are quick to demand for gender equity while they are not ready to take the mantle to justify their claims. They only sit to seek favors. The boys on other hand want to get rich quickly. Where on earth can you pluck money without working for it? It is even biblical that hard work pays.
Our youth want to have money that they are not ready to look for. This is why they go for queer means of looking for money. They turn out to spend thriftily where savings is highly abhorred. It sad to see the youths copying everything from the whites because it is morally right but its sound palatable to the age brackets. Others copy to experiment not involving their consent. What society are the youths building?
When did the rain start falling on us? Identifying this may be the only prescription to revert the rot threatening to throw the economy and the country to the dogs. We’ve nurtured a TV society where kids as young as three years are glued to TV screens for hours.
Videos and latest movies have remained the major rewards to children by their parents. Hard work and struggle is no longer encouraged. We are seeing youth who want things to come their way without working. I fault the parents who are giving out the fish to their kids and reluctant to show them how to fish.
The modern youths are prone to handouts that they misuse in stupid entertainment. Parents do this to please their ever cuddled and pampered children. You wonder why Africa despite its potential still lags behind in almost everything and charity remains the only source of livelihood?
It is explained better and understood that the youths have never been shown the way to rise and prove their worth. We have remained with notions that there are no opportunities for the youth.
The old guards have stuck on the throne. But one question begs; where are the youth to demand and agitate for these positions? We are either being used by the political elite to maim, and harass their opponents, only to come and mouth after they dump us immediately when their selfish desires are met. We don’t stop even for minute to think of the day after tomorrow. We bite fingers and blame almost everything on everyone while we are savages.
As much as we would like to celebrate Obama’s victory, we should not count ourselves as winners if we are still clinging on the past. Obama’s hope should be a driving force, we cannot achieve this by sitting back and expect results. We should prove ourselves by coming out with credentials and well built personalities.
The Kenyan youths way of life should be dumped far from reach. The celebration of life in terms of entertainment and liquor should not be part of punctuations for them, but hard work and sacrifice of magnitude. Lets celebrate our life in terms of output in steering the economic wheel.
John F Kennedy adage reminds us that the future of a nation is determined by the current prospects of the youths. Lets start it today so that we finish it tomorrow.

Culture Of Impunity Has to End With Proper Implementation Of Waki Report. Ignore the Political Class.
‘Sir, I say that justice is truth in action,’ goes a former British Prime Minister and Novelist Benjamin Disraeli’s adage. Where are those politicians who have been crying for justice to implement the Waki report?
The Kenyan transitions contrary to changing the country for the better, they are hell-bent on linking the past and present with atrocities. The scar of the post election violence is still fresh but it is sickening to see in a rare show of unity some politicians in unison ululating for the demise of a report that they clapped for its formation and now other suggesting for amnesty. For those politicians who have seen the need for its implementation, thumbs up. A report that has long been waited used taxpayer’s money, a report that could settle the dust of prejudice and suspicion among the Kenyan. A report that could see the culture of impunity die. A report that could see Kenyans face the future with unbridled hope. The report is being trashed us if a nursery kid did it. Some politicians want to make it lack the credibility it deserves. Not because it is bad nor something of the sort but those politicians against it only want to earn a political mileage by hiding their friends who are implicated in the post elections violence that left more than 1000 innocent Kenyan dead, thousands left homeless till today, as numerous youths still languish in jail and cells. It is ridiculous and shameful to see a politician authoritatively claim that the report is based on romours, speculations, conjecture, supposition and hearsay. Is this not contempt Hon. Wako? I doubt if the politician was putting his people’s interest first. I doubt if those IDP’s matter to him. I doubt if he cares about the future of this country and the generations to come. To him the party and his colleagues whom he is trying to defend take a centre stage. To him nothing happened and nothing need not to be done, but prepare the people for another post election violence come 2012 when Kenyan go to another election. Where they will hire gangs and maim their opponents to meet their political ends. To him sounding politically correct surpass any other interests. To some are seeking amnesties for their political friends who played key roles in the violence, whereas those who fought for them still are locked up in cells. Still those who were uprooted from their home are spending cold nights without anything to eat at IDP camps countrywide. One wonders how politicians can be this insincere and inhuman. If amnesty should be the case and which this article is not out to advocate for, let it come from those who felt the brunt of the post election violence not from politicians who could use our money to afford tight security for their families and property if worst come to worst again.
What we yearned for years is now being buried, as we watch come 2012 we will still bite fingers and point accusing fingers at everyone. This is our time to stand as a nation and agitate for not a fragile but lasting death of a culture of impunity. It is time for Kenyan to come up and stand against this crop of politicians who are a major cause to our long suffering, societal, economic paralysis. They have weakened the public institutions for selfish gains. Part two, chapter one of the Waki Report points that, to the political class everything flows not from Law but from personal decision and influence. This leaves many questions begging, if the Waki report has to be left in their hands. First how can you be a judge in your own case? Why cant the nation devise laws to govern the political elites as it is now, it seems the politicians are above the common law of the land? So are our judicial systems capable of handling such cases of high magnitude (Waki Report), if the Kiliku Parliamentary Committee, Human Rights Watch and Akiwumu Commission reports passed and are gathering dust but non of the perpetrators has since been punished. The Kenyan case is not different from the Rwanda genocide or now the Congo muddle. Just like Ex-Liberia president who is on trial at War Crimes Tribunal in Amsterdam Netherlands our politicians implicated in Waki report should not be spared either. An issue of unearthing healing wounds should not be a scapegoat. It has worked elsewhere why not in Kenya. For instance, former leaders of Cambodia are in the duck, once all-powerful president of Yugoslavia died in a jail cell, vice president of Congo is in custody and now Radovan Kara Dzic accused of massacre in Bosnia has been arrested.
Everything that happened and is happening, the Land and resource inequalities we are facing, the unemployed youths that are ever culpable for hire as militias and organized gangs is because the politicians want the status quo to be using as a stepping stone to meet their selfish political ambitions. The Waki report points out those politicians for long since 1990’s deliberately have devised violence as the only way to obtain power. They are the main cause of violence and its escalation. But funnily they walk on scot free perhaps to organize another destruction there after. One wonders why should we leave them to keep us in this shadows of destruction whereas we are the most hit by the aftermaths as they dine and wine on our coffers. Our legislator’s interest is to keep us in the impasse that they keep riding on to reach their destinations to come, as they continue to pit us against each other.
The Waki report should be used as a litmus test for the trust we have in the so-called honourables. It absurd to see some Kenyans who also went through the strife of post election violence as the masterminds were driven around in well protected cars. Rallying behind these politicians singing the spelling doom for this country. It astonishes me to see how fast we can forget and pay a blind eye to our future. We have seen many reports being swept under the carpet, the Akiwumu report, Ndung’ land report, Njonjo report just to mention but a few. The mind boggles. The Waki report should not be also part of this list. It is unfortunate to have failed to learn from the 1992 violence, the 1997 ethnic clashes and now the 2008 post elections violence. Am not a prophet of doom but believe me failure to implement Waki report and failure to bring the perpetrators to book Kenya will be in worse flames come 2012. Though International Criminal Court and International war tribunal sounds unpalatable to some political class, for Kenya to pursue peace building process and stop the future atrocities, truth and reconciliation commission nor local tribunals can be options. The law emphasizes individual responsibility for all those atrocities against humanity and punishment is logical. For justice to be reached and lessons learnt International Crime Court and the International war tribunal is the only forum that should be responsible for trying and punishing those who were responsible and honour the memory of those lost. If we leave this report to politicians and hands of Kenyan tribunal the outcome will be swayed to perpetrators favours, and if not the transgressors will recoil back to their tribal cylinders for sympathy and make the war against impunity take an ethnic dimension. You will hear them rally and hide under their communities and allege of witch-hunt of their community. This is not the way we should, not alone imagine if we have to stand up heads high come 2012.
The post election violence exceeded the normal parameters and for that must be dealt by an International Tribunal. Amnesty should not be an option here. Orelese we want to prove to the world that the more we change the more we remain the same and that Kenya is a truly failed state. The Kenyans wishes of having justice prevail for everyone should be the driving gear for implementation of this report. The notion that a Kenyan importance has never outlived the Election Day should be wiped out by bringing the masterminds of impunity to book.
Implementing the Waki report is like taking up unpleasant tasks. If you have got to swallow a frog, you just don’t have to look at that sucker too long. He will not get purtier. As a matter of fact the long you look the uglier he gets. Lets bundle them at The Hague to end the culture of impunity for our own prosperity.

EXTERNAL MEDIATION THE ONLY WAY OUT.
As the country bleeds life lost and many displaced is disheartening and absurd to see some political elites ignoring the need for mediation.
We all know they are responsible for the current political impasse but they are not willing to sort out this bloodshed, to them deaths, displacement, loss of property and grounding of economy is a non issue to them. They still have guards to tell as without blurting an eye that the country doesn’t need an external mediator to resolve the conflict.
One wonders whether this people really know the real meaning of Peace whose opposite is war and when do we need mediation. They lack the ability to walk in the shoes of the common man who’s a refugee in his own home. When they will truly know how the rest of the country is feeling they will be able to communicate with them more easily sincerely, trustily and will be able to lead more effectively but not sycophancies, mediocrity and inhumanity as it is being manifested by majority of this shameful arrogant leaders who still assume there is nothing wrong in
Let me pardon this arrogant merciless political elites- excuse me for using ‘arrogant merciless’ all through because all night long was perusing the dictionary for a better description but all that can suit them is ‘ARROGANT MERCILESS’ I know you have grammatically correct description but just preserve it. The should know that they would not and will never resolve this mess they have caused the country and only external mediators are needed to bring about a lasting solution or they want to tell us they are happy when we shade blood or there’s is something they are just sweeping under the carpet thinking that Kenyans will forget the injustices they did. They should be informed that mediators are third party would brighten the prospects of the conflict and bring them to the negotiation table to bring about a permanent not only a fragile solution to these skirmishes that is threatening to tear the Kenyan heritage. Mediators will bridge to contain, reduce and resolve the conflict and this is all we Kenyans needs. It shameless to see those jeopardizing the peace negations shed crocodile tears to hear them talk about peace. Has anyone told them what peace means and if they haven’t let me tell them today peace is all about harmony, respect, justice, and goodwill. So how just and harmonious are they? Sarcastic is all they are!
It is very evident that the two political camps are pursing incompatible goals and cannot be managed internally, only an external impartial neutral third party can draw them to a direct negotiation. Or are our leaders who are not interested in negotiations opting for violent strategies where war, sabotage and disruption of the socio-economic infrastructure, deaths and other insurgent activities are the means to protect what they believe they won democratically. We are left wondering if they won why they are afraid of talking about their winning. Kenyans would wish non-violent means conflict resolution as this is the only desirable and viable means. This mean not only conform to norms of civilized behaviour, it also fulfils the basic requirements of democracy. Democracy demands the generation of conflict for manifestation of different expectations and aspirations of people and at the same time its resolution through peaceful means. So mediation is of utmost importance. If they oppose this then they don’t care about the greatness of this lovely nation. The trust and confidence entrusted in external mediation will ensure sincerity, openness transparency justice and will be the channel through which national healing and peace will be initiated and pursued.
To my fellow Kenyans as well as we may throw the blame to our politicians for the current situations we have the largest stake in this turmoil and funnily we are the most affected- Because we threw stones and blew up homes and shops we are refugees in own country we can no longer get food, water and other necessities. We can no longer rush to our neighbours we have been living with for decades for any assistance because we burned their houses and worst even killed them because we believe they voted otherwise or they are inclined to a varied ethnic groups. Is this the way we want to live? Everyone of us needs the other to be who we are. Lets learn to appreciate each other as we have always done let not politics pit us against each other. We should wake up and realize that there are no permanent enemies in politics. Those people we are fighting and shading blood for are real buddies their kids even play, school, dine and party together as they themselves club together. It sad that we even burn down our main source of livelihood not pausing and thinking about tomorrow. Let’s eliminate prejudice-self prejudice included to enable us use our greatest resource-people.

This New Year guys and Guess everyone of yu will agree with me that Xmas and New Year's day came to pass with little attention thanks to the then charged political atmosphere. As a Human Rights activist, I take every opportunity to gracefully congratulate my colleagues who stood tall and voted during the last General Election, those who never voted, SHUT UP! All of us did the best thing. We Voted, over 450 souls were lost and close to quarter a million others displaced. My brethren Peace is Vital and always embrace it.

Imagine gun shots claiming lives were so obvious just because we tossed our votes and someone 'rigged stupidly and openly' leaving the other person with something to complain about and propel us to what the country has become. Peace is Noble and lets embrace it. Let politicians find political solutions to their political problems but never love to hate. Move on with just that...............
